Change brings new beginnings. As daunting as it can seem, I will help you to navigate and embrace it all!
Hello, it’s so nice to meet you! My name is Emma and I am a student intern therapist at Counselling & Co. I am so thrilled to practice as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) as I have consistently recognized that my purpose in life is to help others, as it is fulfilling to offer support and guidance to people who are struggling. Knowing that this has always been my purpose in life, working in counselling is the ultimate goal for me, to have a career that aligns with my purpose. At this point in my professional journey, I am in a transitional period with becoming a new practitioner. I aim to focus on developing my practical skills with EFT modalities and form meaningful and impactful client-counsellor relationships. I have always handled everything I do with a sense of profound empathy and I feel so appreciative that I can take this quality of mine and bring it into work with me every day.
Providing clients with the right therapeutic tools and interventions to grow and make personal changes is an important responsibility that I am prepared to take on. I never see people as broken and I acknowledge and commend that coming to therapy shows incredible strength with being prepared to help better yourself. Above all, I will always maintain a non-judgmental environment for clients to grow and develop. I don’t see therapy as a way to “fix” people but as a way to support and uplift my clients through life's obstacles and uncertainties.
Why Work With Me
Mental health has always been a huge part of my life, as it is a part of all our lives. The exposure to instances of mental health struggles with loved ones has shaped me into the person I am today. The academic foundation I have built for myself through my educational background is important, but the personal connections to mental health have left the biggest impact on me. I've seen the pitfalls of mental illness and how improper treatment and treatment that is not the right fit can be a detriment to someone. I’m passionate about providing therapeutic care that is a good and equitable fit for my clients. My work experience in human resources has also shown me the importance of practical human application in professional settings. HR and counselling are both human-focused industries, so I believe that all the experience that I’ve had firsthand will enhance my ability to connect with future clients. I want to be your biggest cheerleader and work collaboratively with you to explore how we can work to help you achieve your personal goals.
Professional Background
I have worked in Human Resources for Public Safety Canada for the last three years with the Diversity and Inclusion Secretariat. Working as a part of the D&I team has facilitated my learning in working with an intersectional lens and recognizing the importance of the many intersecting aspects of a client’s identity. Having exposure to a highly collaborative and communicative HR team helped me to grow confidence as a young professional and develop my skills in working within the realm of human connection and support.
Through my professional experience, I learned how to conduct intake interviews alongside my director to gather information on how we could better meet our D&I targets and goals. I was in charge of organizing the flow of the discussions in intake meetings by drafting questions and focusing agendas. Showing up in these meetings and being present in the goal-setting conversations allowed me to grow in my ability to communicate more confidently in professional settings. This gave me firsthand experience with navigating thoughts, feelings, and experiences in the D&I space I worked in while also gaining knowledge in effective professional communication with clients and stakeholders.
Things I bet you didn't know about me:
I have lived in 4 different countries throughout my life.
I worked as a cast member in DisneyWorld as it was always a childhood dream of mine!
I love playing video games in my free time.
