Child Therapy
Child Therapy in Oakville
Children deserve the chance to thrive. Its not always easy to make friends, cope with family changes or understand anxiety. Your child might be feeling stuck and is struggling to navigate through overwhelming emotions and situations.
These challenges can spiral into larger issues as they grow, affecting students' academic performance, social interactions, and self-esteem. Minimizing their struggle can lead to isolation, diminished self-worth, and a disconnect from their true selves and those around them.
Through child therapy in Oakville, we believe in nurturing young minds with compassion, understanding, and tailored support. We're dedicated to providing your kiddo with the tools and strategies needed to face life’s challenges head-on, fostering resilience, self-awareness, and emotional wellbeing.

When to Consider Child Therapy
Recognizing the hurdles your child faces is the first step toward nurturing their potential and cultivating a happier, more fulfilling life. If you notice your child facing any of the challenges mentioned, it might be time to explore child therapy.
Can therapy proceed if parents are separated or divorced?
We always try to include whomever the primary caregivers are in the child's life, and consent from both parents is ideal. This often leads to the best outcome for the child and family.
In cases where parents are separated or divorced, we prefer both parents to be involved and consenting. We can set up separate parent sessions so that both can be involved. We ask for a separation agreement or parenting plan.
Does my child need to consent to therapy?
Absolutely. Therapy works best when there is consent to treatment. Something important to consider is that in Ontario, there is no general age of consent to treatment or counselling. Instead, the issue depends on whether the child is capable of consenting. A child will be found to either have the capacity to consent or to refuse consent if they understand the information relevant to treatment and appreciate the possible consequences of consenting or refusing consent. The therapist considers the child's age, maturity and general level of understanding.
What does working with a child therapist look like?
Therapy with us is a journey filled with discovery and growth. Sessions may vary from your child's playful activities to creative self-expression and structured goal-oriented therapy. Involving parents in various capacities, whether in sessions or through supportive strategizing solo-sessions, is a cornerstone of our approach. Together, we create a nurturing framework tailored to your child’s needs, promoting skill development and emotional resilience.
Frequently Asked Questions about Child Therapy
Can parents be involved in child therapy?
Absolutely! Child therapy involves working with the child individually and with their parents or primary caregivers. The family, especially parents, are an essential component of child therapy, and we always try to include parents or primary caregivers in the therapy process. This includes a parent session as a part of our intake process, providing us with rich and useful information about your kiddo, presenting concerns, and the family's relational dynamics.
It's also important that parents feel comfortable and confident with the therapist supporting their child. We also include parents periodically throughout the treatment process to discuss strategies to help your child at home or school, better understand your child's experience, learn practical communication tools, and strengthen the parent-child relationship.
