Teen Therapy
Teen Therapy in Oakville
Navigating the teenage years can be a complex journey, like wandering through a maze with a map that keeps changing. It’s a time filled with excitement and new discoveries but it can also bring confusion, overwhelm, and moments that feel like emotional plot twists no one saw coming.
Many parents watch, feeling helpless, as their once engaged child retreats into a more closed off and mysterious version of themselves. Meanwhile, teens may be quietly wrestling with worries they don’t yet have the words for—the loneliness of feeling left out, the pressure to succeed at everything, or the weight of cyber-bullying and impossible standards set by social media. Without support, those struggles can pile up, making the future feel heavier than it needs to be.
Our Teen Therapy services in Oakville offer support for teens who feel like they’re stuck or taking confusing detours in that maze. Therapy becomes a calm corner where they can sort through their thoughts, feelings, and fears with someone who meets them where they are, no lectures, no assumptions, and no “fixing” them into someone they’re not. Sessions go beyond talking, they help teens find clearer paths forward, understand themselves better, and build the confidence to navigate tricky turns with more certainty.
Our goal is to empower your teen with the tools they need to face life’s challenges head-on, turning rough waters into something more manageable. With our support, teens learn to express their emotions, build resilience against everyday pressures, and strengthen their sense of self-worth. It’s about giving them the compass they need to navigate their world—so when life throws storms their way, they’re equipped with confidence, courage, and maybe even a little humor of their own.

Do parents have the right to know what's discussed in sessions?
Even though parents might feel that they should be informed of the issues discussed during therapy sessions, we ask that they respect their teens' privacy in the therapy room. For clients of any age, talking with a therapist can be an emotional risk, but it's especially difficult for teens. If teenagers know that everything they say in the therapy room goes straight to their parents, it inevitably has a censoring effect and they are much less likely to speak about issues that are private and important to them. Consequently, little progress can be made.
We prioritize your teen’s privacy to foster open, trusting conversations. Exceptions to confidentiality are strictly for safety concerns, as mandated by law.
Does my teen need to consent to therapy?
Absolutely. Effective therapy is built on consent and willingness to participate. We assess each teen's capacity to consent, considering their understanding and the implications of treatment decisions.
What does working with a teen therapist look like?
Therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all model. At Counselling & Co., it’s tailored to your teen's unique needs and personality. Sessions can be playful, incorporating activities your teen enjoys, or more structured, focusing on specific goals. We believe in the power of creative self-expression to unlock thoughts and emotions, guiding teens toward self-discovery and growth. Parents play a crucial role, too, and we try to involve them in ways that respect a teenager’s privacy while fostering family connections.
FAQs
Are parents involved in their teen’s therapy?
Yes, but it’s a balance. We create a safe and non-judgmental space for teens to feel free to open up about what is important to them. We also value parents' vital role in their teens' lives. Inclusion is tailored to foster systemic change, with privacy respected according to each teen’s comfort level. Parent/teen sessions are always welcome but ultimately, the structure of this is left up to the teen.
We always try to include a parent session as a part of our intake process, as this provides us with rich and useful information about the teenagers' early years, present concerns, and family dynamics. It's also so important that parents feel comfortable and confident with the therapist who will be supporting their teen. We do try to include parents periodically throughout the treatment process to discuss strategies for how to help your teen at home or at school, to gain a better understanding of your teen's experience, learn effective communication tools and to strengthen the parent-adolescent relationship but these are not required.
