“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than You” – Dr. Seuss
Welcome! I am so glad you are here. My name is Melissa, I am an intern therapist here at Counselling and Co. I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can exhale — where you don’t have to have it all figured out, and where every part of your experience is met with curiosity and care. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, grieving, or simply unsure of what comes next, we can move through it together at a pace that feels right for you.
My background in music therapy continues to shape how I approach this work. I understand that not everyone processes emotions through words alone — sometimes creativity, metaphor, or simply being witnessed differently can open doors that conversation cannot. I have experience supporting children, youth, and adults navigating neurodivergence (including autism and ADHD), developmental disabilities, emotional and behavioural challenges, traumatic brain injury, and experiences of grief and loss, including palliative care. I bring both structure and flexibility to our work, always centring your strengths and your goals.
Why Work With Me
I see therapy as a collaborative journey rooted in connection, curiosity, and trust. You are the expert on your own life and my role is to walk alongside you and slow things down, so that we can make sense of your experiences, and gently explore what might be getting in the way of feeling more like yourself.
I believe meaningful change grows from insight, self-compassion, and a deeper understanding of your inner world. My approach is grounded in EFIT and person-centered therapy, meaning I prioritize attunement, respect, and meeting you exactly where you are. When it feels helpful, I may integrate creative or expressive elements informed by my background in music therapy, offering you different ways to access and process your emotions when words alone don’t quite capture your experience.
Above all, I am committed to creating a space that feels steady, accepting, and secure. A space where you can be honest, feel understood, and take steps toward growth at a pace that feels right for you.
Professional Background
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario and nearing the completion of my Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. As well, I hold a Bachelor of Music Therapy with a minor in Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University. My background in music therapy deeply shapes how I understand emotional expression, creativity, and connection and continues to influence how I show up in the therapy room with clients.
I have completed training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), an attachment-based approach that looks to help clients better understand their emotional experiences and strengthen their relationships — both with themselves and with others. This lens guides my work and supports me in helping clients make sense of patterns, access deeper emotions, and move toward greater security and confidence.
Things I bet you didn’t know about me
I have written my own album and play 4 instruments: voice, guitar, piano and ukulele.
I have a dog named Scooby, who I am obsessed with!
I am a huge hockey fan.
